Brief Introduction

Black Youth Canadians featured in the 2004 calendar include:

  • Kerry Deagle - first year student of University at Brescia College, a compassionate and determined black woman
  • Arthur H. Alexander - one of the founding members of the National Unity Association
  • Marlon A. Rhoden - nominated for the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers, a recipient of the 2002 Harry Jerome Award for Community Leadership
  • Mary Ann Shadd - the first woman law student, an advocate of women's rights and abolition
  • Randal Gregory McAuley - named the Canadian Interscholastic Sports Player of the Week during the 2003 football season
  • Willie O'Ree - the first black player in the history of the National Hockey League
  • Arieg Tawfig Elagibr - an active member of the Muslim Student's Association
  • Dr. Anderson Ruffin Abbott - served in the Union Army as one of the eight Black Surgeons during the American Civil War
  • Shima Abdelwahab - envolved into a strong advocate for multicultural issuese, a number of volunteer experiences with the local communities
  • Delos Rogest Davis - one of the most prominent Black people of Amherstburg in the 19th century
  • Nana Yanful - one of 20 high school graduates across Canada to receive the 2002 TD Canada Trust Scholarship for outstanding community services award
  • Robert Sutherland - the first student of colour to study at Queen's
