Racism Ends With Me - Poster Contest

Help us Celebrate March 21st, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination by making a hand-drawn poster showing this year's theme - "Racism Ends With Me"

Great Prizes to Win!

The first, second and third place winners in each category will receive $100, $50 and $25 cash, respectively. Winners will be contacted by phone.

Contest Rules:

  •   Three age categories: 5-9 years, 10-14 years, 15-19 years
  •   All posters must be no larger than 8.5x15" and hand drawn
  •   Colour or black and white submissions accepted
  •   Entry deadline is Friday, March 4th, 2005 @5pm

"Shade of Black & White" - An Annual Art Contest & Exhibit

Secondary students of Northwest London are invited to express their feeling of Racism and Diversity through art. This year's theme:

One World, One City, One Community!

Contest Rules:

  •   All entires must be original and hand-drawn
  •   Minimum size: 14" x 18"
  •   Any medium (i.e., pastels, oil, acrylic, water etc)
  •   Appropriate images and language
  •   Narrative explaining your art piece (maxium one page)
  •   Include completed 'work log' with entry (forms available from NWLRC or your Art Teacher
  •   Catagories: Grades 9 & 10, Grades 11 & 12
  •   Art Entry deadline: Friday, March 4th, 4pm at Northwest London Resource Centre
  •   All painting must be securely framed with hanging wire (to hang & for picture saftey)
Awards:
  •   1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Prizes for each category
  •   Certificate of Racognition for all participants
  •   Exhibit of all entires at Shrewood Forest Mall
  •   Artwork will be displayed staring March 12 at NWLRC "Grand Opening" in Mall

we as a community stand united against hatred and discrimination- Join us as we take "Steps Against Racism"!

join us and rally on Concrete Beach in front of the University Community Center to celebrate the ethnic diversity and multiculturalism on UWO campus. March together to celebrate the unity and multiculturalism of our campus. This event is a precursor to and an acknowledgement of March 21st, the United Nations International day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Speakers at our event will include:

Bryan Prince is an Historian and Board member for the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum. He is the author of many works on the subject of early Canadian Black History including " I Came As A Stranger: The Underground Railroad".

Gwen Robinson has lived in Chantam for over fifty years and has researched the history of its Black community. She authored the book "Seek the Truth" and co-produced the video celebrate the Legacy: "The Story of Chatham's Black Community".

Spencer Alexander is the Assistant Curator of The Buxton National Historic Site and Museum. He has been doing historic dramatic portrayals for twenty years and has appeared in film documentaries pertaining to the Underground Railroad and Canadian Black History.

Dr. Karen Mock recently chaired the National Advisory Committee to the Secretary of State and Canadian Secretariat for the UN World Conference Against Racism, and was a delegate at the conference in Durban, South Africa. Further to Durban, and post 9/11, Canada is working on an Action Plan Against Racism and Hate. Dr. Mock will speak about these recent developments.
