Request: Contribute to Museum London’s Historical Exhibition!
Do you own objects that tell the story of the immigration of
Black people to London-Middlesex? If so, Museum London is looking
to hear from you. We’re looking for objects such as dress wear,
luggage, photographs, journals and anything else you think will
contribute to this exhibition.

Opening Celebration, 2 - 5 pm, Free Event Museum London,
421 Ridout St. North, London An exciting program to kick
off the 8th Annual Black History Month hosted by London Black
History Coordinating Committee. The official opening of the “Home,
New Home” exhibit at Museum London explores the many stories of our
local Black communities. Witness a historical portrayal of Dr.
Alexander Milton Ross, who traveled extensively through the Deep
South organizing and facilitating the escape of hundreds of enslaved
people via the Underground Railway. The Museum’s Community Gallery
will come alive with cultural groups and services presenting their
arts, crafts, and music. Refreshments served. All ages welcome.

Progress, 12 to 3 pm, Free Event on both days Black Student Association
(BSA), University of Western Ontario, UCC Atrium This
year the theme for our Opening Ceremonies Celebration is “Pride and
Progress”. The Political Affairs Officers for 2009-2010, Michael
Antwi and Evelyn Asiedu, have been working vigorously since August
2009 with the help of the rest of the BSA executive and support from
UWO Student Life. With special speakers and live performances
scheduled, BSA's hard work promises to provide two days of
entertainment, education and enlightenment. Appearances Include:

Woodstock Come to the Woodstock Museum and view “
Marshall Family Album: Black History Exhibition” starting on Saturday,
February 6th. The Marshall family
lived in Woodstock from the 1880’s through to the 1990’s when the
last local family member Leroy Marshall died. Leroy (or Roy)
participated in the Oxford Rifles in WWII, several local bands and
worked at Thomas Organ. Ordinary life or extraordinary? Come look
at Roy’s family photo albums and learn more about local Black

Griffin House National Historic Site &
Parks Canada Discovery Centre
HAMILTON - Griffin House National Historic Site
and Parks Canada Discovery Centre are pleased to co-present a
variety of exciting events in celebration of Black History Month.
Griffin House is a black heritage site in the Dundas Valley managed
jointly by the Hamilton Civic Museums (through Fieldcote Memorial
Park and Museum) and the Hamilton Conservation Authority.

kids on a Black History Hike to Griffin House National Historic
Site, Ancaster! Wear boots and mitts for a guided hike from the
Hermitage Parking Lot to Griffin House, where hot cider and history
will be served from 1:00 until 4:00 pm. Parking and access by the
Hermitage Parking Lot ONLY, Sulphur Springs Road (near the
intersection of Sulphur Springs and Mineral Springs Road).
Before or after your hike, explore black history indoors at Parks
Canada Discovery Centre, 57 Discovery Drive, Hamilton Harbour. The
Centre will be open from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Family Day.
Joint ticket available for both Griffin House & Discovery Centre

Eldon House: A Selection of Untold Stories As
London's oldest surviving residence, Eldon House is an extraordinary
space that brings London's history to life with a remarkable
collection of objects from the past. Not only does it contain the
stories of London during the past 175 years, it also contains
objects and histories of many other communities from around the
world. Throughout Eldon House's 175th year, our Untold Stories
program will investigate the histories of a selection of these
cultural communities. Each community will be invited to host an
event at Eldon House that highlights customary practices of their
culture, reclaiming the meaning of these objects.
