What We Do?

The Cross Cultural Learner Centre runs Global House. Since 1986, Global House has been a reception centre for government assisted refugees (GARs). We welcome people from all over the world who are designated refugees due to fear of persecution in their home countries.


Global House staff have helped over 5,000 refugees to settle and find a new life in Canada.

Core Services

  • Delivery of the Resettlement Assistant Program (RAP) of the federal government of Canada
  • Orientation to Canadian society and life skills
  • Temporary housing for recently arrived government sponsored refugees

  • Finding household items
  • Applying to federal and provincial services (Interim Federal Health Insurance Program, SIN, OHIP and CTB)
  • Opening a bank account
  • Registration of children in school
  • Viewing and selecting an apartment
