Joseph's House
The House was originally established in 1987 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of The Diocese of London and is now operated by CCLC. Josephs’ House provides temporary accommodation for newly arrived refugee claimants.
The staff welcomes people from all over the world who have fled their home countries in fear of persecution and have come to Canada seeking protection. Refugee claimants must go through a process before being allowed to remain in Canada.
Residents usually stay at the House on average one and a half months. Rent is charged according to Ontario Works rates and residents are required to provide their own food and do their own cooking and cleaning.
Services
Assisting refugee claimants – through steps of refugee process
- to apply for Ontario Works assistance if necessary and help with ongoing communication with Ontario Works
- to register at applicable English As Second Language program
- to find suitable, permanent housing
- to obtain household items and furniture when possible
- with other concerns and problems
Information Workshop for refugee claimants is held every Monday (except holidays) at 2:00 pm at 505 Dundas Street, in Meeting Room C on the first floor. Donations of non-perishable food appreciated. For Volunteer opportunities see GET INVOLVED.

A refugee is a person who “Owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the
