CCLC is a global education and multicultural resource center committed to promoting cross-cultural understanding.

 

This volunteer position will be housed at Cross Cultural Learner Centre, 505 Dundas Street. Volunteer(s) are volunteering on behalf of the CCLC and as such should comply with the confidentiality policy of the Cross Cultural Learner Centre.

Responsibility
  • Provide interpretive services for Spanish speaking clients to assist settlement counselor to disseminate information to recently arrived immigrants and refugees;
  • Facilitate client access to services by telephoning for appointments, explaining documents such as letters from Ontario Works, Assisting clients to fill out forms, write correspondence, etc;
  • Work with settlement counselors to ensure that clients understand their rights and responsibilities as new Canadians;
  • Keep accurate and up to date on clients serviced;
  • Assist settlement counselor with outreach to community on behalf of clients.

Qualifications
  • Referred by a settlement counselor and or complete orientation sessions for volunteers assisting newcomers provided by CCLC;
  • Knowledge of Second Language preferably Spanish;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and part of a multi-disciplinary team.
