Prepare for the Canadian Job Market With Our Job Search Workshop

Moving to a new country can be an exciting yet challenging experience, especially when it comes to finding employment. One of the most important aspects of settling in a new country is being able to utilize your education and skills to find meaningful work. However, the job search process can be daunting, especially in a new environment. This is where the Job Search Workshop (JSW) program at the CCLC comes in to assist newcomers in their search for employment.

The JSW program is a 4-day workshop that provides newcomers with the skills and tools necessary to better prepare for the job search process and succeed in the Canadian labour market. The program consists of three parts, including an Individual Employment Needs Assessment with a personalized action plan, a Pre-Employment Workshop, and Follow-up Support.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to identify their skills and accomplishments, research local employers and analyze job postings, develop a Canadian-style resume, cover letter, and references, access the hidden job market, create networking contacts, and understand the Canadian company hiring and interviewing process.

Day One

The first day of the program focuses on Skills Assessment and Labour Market Information. Participants will learn how to identify their skills, experiences, and accomplishments and understand how these can be applied to the Canadian labour market. They will also receive information on the current job market and the types of jobs available in their field.

Day Two

The second day of the program is focused on creating an effective Resume, Cover letter, and References. Participants will learn how to develop a professional resume that highlights their skills and experiences, as well as how to write a compelling cover letter and list strong references.

Day Three

On the third day of the program, participants will learn how to access the Hidden Job Market and create Networking Contacts. They will learn about the importance of networking and how to make meaningful connections with potential employers.

Day Four

Finally, on the fourth day of the program, participants will learn about the Interview Process. They will receive information on how to prepare for an interview, including what to wear, how to answer common interview questions, and how to follow up after the interview.

In conclusion, the Job Search Workshop program at the CCLC is an excellent resource for newcomers to Canada who are looking to find meaningful employment. The program provides participants with the skills and tools necessary to succeed in the Canadian labour market, including creating a professional resume and cover letter, accessing the hidden job market, and understanding the interview process.
